Cholera is spreading in Syria, 39 people died.

Cholera is spreading on a large scale in war-torn Syria. Cholera has already killed 39 people in the country. The United Nations says it is concerned about it. Al Arabiya news.


The World Health Organization (WHO) said on Wednesday (October 05) that more than 10,000 people have been suspected of cholera infection in the last six weeks.


This fatal disease is usually from contaminated food or water. The affected person has diarrhea and frequent vomiting. The disease can spread in residential areas due to a lack of a proper sewage system.


The war has been going on in Syria for more than a decade. About two-thirds of the country's water treatment plants and half of the pumping stations have been damaged.

Euphrates River water is suspected as the source of this outbreak. Because the water of this river is seriously polluted. The pollution problem has been compounded by drought, rising temperatures, and reduced water flow due to dams built in Turkey.


Earlier in 2009, cholera had once spread in Syria on a large scale.


Cholera kills 21,000 to 1,43,000 people every year. Cholera outbreaks have been reported in 26 countries in the first 9 months of this year.


On September 30, the World Health Organization issued a warning about cholera increasing at an alarming rate around the world.
