Strange Death of Russian Oil Businessman Who Condemned Ukraine War.

A Russian oil businessman who condemned the war in Ukraine has died mysteriously. The businessman named Ravil Maganov is the chairman of Lukoil, Russia's second-largest oil company. According to reports, he died after falling from the sixth-floor window of a hospital in Moscow on Thursday (September 1).

Maganov is the latest of several big Russian businessmen to die mysteriously or unusually. Russia started military operations in Ukraine on February 24 this year. Lukoil chief Maganov criticized it early after the campaign started and called for it to be stopped.

Maganov was born in 1954 in Almaty, Tatarstan, former the Soviet Union. In 1977, he graduated from Moscow State University in Oil and Gas. Maganov was one of the founders of LookOil in 1991.

Maganov took over as the company's chairman in 2020. Alexander Sabotin, a senior manager of LookOil, died unexpectedly last May.

LookOil confirmed Maganov's death in a statement. But the statement only said, "Chairman Ravil Maganov died of a serious illness." Russian state media, citing law enforcement, said Maganov's death was initially being treated as a suicide.
